Since 1929 The history of manufacturing Sauso gloves is strongly linked to the history of the Sauso family. Svante Sauso, the great grandfather of Sakari Sauso, got his glove manufacturing skills from the greatest German glove manufacturers and established factory to Järvenpää, Finland in 1929. After Svante his son Arno took over the management of the company and from him the company was passed on to the third generation of Sauso that is represented by Sakari Sauso.

Ethiopian hair sheep nappa, i.e., full-grain leather, is fine and stretchy. Sheep nappa leather is characterised by its beautiful shine, unavailable in any other glove leathers we use. Fine yet durable leather perfectly conforms to the shape of the hand.

On the inside of the glove, there's a warm knitted lining. The knitting made of cashmere and wool is a warm and soft lining material. The blend combines the benefits of both natural materials. Cashmere is three times warmer than wool, while wool fibre is more durable compared to cashmere. The lining is sewn onto the glove in a way that it can be replaced if necessary. The warmth value of these gloves is between the other two glove models. Together with the warm lining, the fine leather makes these gloves perfect for different temperatures, from autumn to spring.

The wine red colour of the gloves adds extra spice to a classic outfit and suits also more extravagant styles. Hand-quilted decorative stitches on the back of the hand resemble the arc of a string instrument. A black  trim runs along the wrist all the way to the slit on the palm side. The leather-covered snap button closes the slit snugly around the wrist. The length of the wrist is approximately 6cm, so the wrist is well covered from wind and cold.

In the hand-cutting process of the glove leather, a traditional table-cutting method has been used. The cutter master carefully treats each hide by hand, cutting suitable pieces for the gloves. After cutting, the leather pieces are stretched to remove the appropriate amount of stretch. Only the right amount of room for adjustment is left to ensure the gloves conform to the user's hand. This is an essential step to ensure a perfect fit. Therefore, the gloves should sit snugly the first times.

The gloves are handmade with a sewing machine. The step seam used in the gloves is a particularly challenging technique that only the best glove makers know. A step seam creates a delicate and perfected look. The unique quirk structure between the fingers increases the mobility of the fingers and improves fit. The quirk piece is a small diamond-shaped piece of leather at the base of the fingers. This old glove-making technique is challenging and requires precision.

How do I choose the right size gloves?

To find the right size, measure your larger hand (usually your writing hand) at its widest point without a thumb. The circumference of the hand is measured very firmly around the hand. Tip: If you do not have a tape measure, you can use a string. Measure the circumference of the hand with the string and then measure the length of the string with a ruler. This measurement result allows you to select the correct size from the selected size chart. (The size chart can be found on each product page.) If the measurement is between two sizes, we recommend rounding to the nearest half or full size. When rounding to the nearest size, consider the length of your fingers. If you have long fingers or keep your nails long, choose a larger size. If the model of your hand is more wide than the long model, choose a smaller size - this way the fingers are not too long. The glove should sit firmly at the beginning, as the leather stretches slightly in use and shapes in your hand over time.
