Authentic craftsmanship

Quality gloves are hand made from start to finish and machines are only used to assist us.

The cutter is responsible for the fit of the gloves. He works the leather with a centuries-old table-cutting method using tools similar to those used at the Sauso factory as early as 1929. The goal of the cutter is to make the most of the leather so that expensive material is not wasted while taking into account the natural stretch of each individual leather type.

In table cutting the leather is stretched just the perfect amount before cutting to ensure excellent fit. With this process it is made sure that the gloves do not stretch even after long use and that they will retain their shape.

Another particularly critical phase in glove manufacturing is sewing. Even the slightest deviation in the sewing pattern immediately affects the size of the glove and its fit. Every millimeter matters in the work of the seamstresses. Sauso gloves most commonly use the seam type "stepp" which is particularly challenging to sew as the lower leather is completely hidden - could be said that the seamstress must see with his/her fingertips.

Leather gloves are often finished with lining which is as a matter of fact a glove in the glove. Linings made of genuine natural materials are attached to leather gloves by sewing on the fingertips and wrist. This makes it possible to replace the lining with a new one significantly extending the life of the gloves.

Depending on the glove model and the materials used the wrist bracing is done either by hand or by machine sewing. At the same time with the lacing labels indicating the material and care instructions as well as the size marking are also affixed to the gloves. After that the gloves are lightly ironed.

Nowadays there are only a few specialists in glove making in the world. By the end of the 1980s the last specialists at the Järvenpää factory retired and there were no successors in Finland. Since the early 90s Sauso gloves have been made in the beautiful city of Pecs, Hungary which is considered to be the capital of high quality glove manufacturing.

All Sauso gloves are designed in Helsinki, Finland where we also have our brand store. This makes it possible for us to get feedback on what kind of gloves customers need and want. We have the largest collection of gloves in Finland and we are sure that there is something for everyone!
