Since 1929 The history of manufacturing Sauso gloves is strongly linked to the history of the Sauso family. Svante Sauso, the great grandfather of Sakari Sauso, got his glove manufacturing skills from the greatest German glove manufacturers and established factory to Järvenpää, Finland in 1929. After Svante his son Arno took over the management of the company and from him the company was passed on to the third generation of Sauso that is represented by Sakari Sauso.

A classic glove made from Peccary boar leather is the Rolls-Royce of gloves. This is a glove that you pass on to the next generation, from mother to daughter. This glove combines two lovely, luxurious materials: peccary and cashmere wool blend. Both materials have excellent thermal insulation, making these gloves great for keeping your hands warm even in severe winter weather.

As the natural materials are also breathable, the gloves comfortable to wear through the winter. Peccary wild boar leather is naturally thick and porous, making it excellent at insulating heat. Peccary leather is known for its beautiful matte finish. The smooth, velvet-soft leather is patterned with three adjacent small dots – a pattern typical for peccary created by the hair follicles in the hides. As the gloves are made with leather from wild animals, each pair is unique and one-of-a-kind. Peccary is also very durable and develops its own beautiful patina over time, making the gloves a joy to wear for years to come.

In addition to being the perfect leather for gloves, peccary is valuable because of its limited availability. Peccary is manufactured in Peru, which is the only country allowed to sell this valuable leather. Indigenous people in the Amazon hunt the peccary boar for its meat. As the species is CITES-protected, its hunting is only allowed for survival. In other words, the peccary boar is not hunted because of its hides; the hides are just a by-product. And as always with leather derived from wild species, each hide is unique, reflecting the life of the individual animal.

The traditional design has three decorative stitches on the back of the hand, creating a sophisticated look to the glove. The cuff of the glove covers the wrist. The delicate cuff fits well inside the sleeve of the jacket. An elastic band, fitted in the wrist side of the cuff, ensures the glove fits perfectly.

Over 100 carefully executed crafting steps and high-quality materials make these gloves a great investment. Gloves made from peccary leather must always be sewn by hand, because the leather is relatively thick. Due to its thickness, the gloves are made using a superimposed seam, i.e. the seam is visible to the outside. This involves hand-sewing the gloves using only a needle and thread. As sewing is very time-consuming and requires utmost precision, the seamstress only makes about 2.5 pairs of gloves a day.

The gloves are supposed to have a snug fit at first, as they mould and stretch to the individual hands of the wearer over time. Cutting the leather is the most important step in terms of ensuring the gloves fit perfectly. To achieve this, the gloves are carefully crafted using the centuries-old table cutting method. With this method, the leather is stretched out to control the level of stretch present in the final product, creating leather that has just the right amount of flexibility. This ensures the glove will have a perfect fit, and that it doesn’t stretch after long-time wear. Each piece of leather is processes separately. Peccary hides come from a relatively small wild animal and are often defective, with many traces of life and even holes. Cutting the leather is thus similar to a jigsaw puzzle. An experienced cutter selects the right pieces from the hide suitable for each part of the glove. Fortunately, the skins can be put to good use because the gloves have a lot of small parts between the fingers.

The lining inside the glove is practically a fingered glove in itself. As a natural material, cashmere is soft, breathable and has brilliant thermal insulation. When the gloves are used, the leather lasts longer than the knitted lining. The life of the gloves can be extended by changing the lining to a new one if necessary.

How do I choose the right size gloves?

To find the right size, measure your larger hand (usually your writing hand) at its widest point without a thumb. The circumference of the hand is measured very firmly around the hand. Tip: If you do not have a tape measure, you can use a string. Measure the circumference of the hand with the string and then measure the length of the string with a ruler. This measurement result allows you to select the correct size from the selected size chart. (The size chart can be found on each product page.) If the measurement is between two sizes, we recommend rounding to the nearest half or full size. When rounding to the nearest size, consider the length of your fingers. If you have long fingers or keep your nails long, choose a larger size. If the model of your hand is more wide than the long model, choose a smaller size - this way the fingers are not too long. The glove should sit firmly at the beginning, as the leather stretches slightly in use and shapes in your hand over time.
