Since 1929 The history of manufacturing Sauso gloves is strongly linked to the history of the Sauso family. Svante Sauso, the great grandfather of Sakari Sauso, got his glove manufacturing skills from the greatest German glove manufacturers and established factory to Järvenpää, Finland in 1929. After Svante his son Arno took over the management of the company and from him the company was passed on to the third generation of Sauso that is represented by Sakari Sauso.

The long cuff gives this classic glove an elegant touch. The longer cuff reaches about halfway of the forearm. The longer cuff length also ensures that the wrists stay warm. Hence, these sleek gloves are suitable for both narrow and short-sleeved jackets and coats.

The gloves are made from nappa leather, derived from Ethiopian hair sheep, and are incredibly soft and flexible. The naturally fine but durable leather moulds perfectly to the hands of the wearer over time. Lamb nappa leather is known for its beautifully glossy surface.

The natural fibres in the lining add to the warmth of the glove. The knitted lining makes the gloves suitable for almost any weather from autumn to spring. The cashmere blend, made in Italy, is soft and warm. The breathability and thermal-insulation capabilities of wool combined with the luxurious softness of cashmere make the blend an excellent material to be used for the lining.

The gloves are made using the centuries-old table cutting method, which ensures the gloves will fit perfectly. Each hide is cut individually. The leather is stretched out to control the level of stretch present in the final product, creating leather that has just the optimal amount of flexibility, ensuring an excellent fit. This also ensures that the gloves don’t stretch even after long-time wear, but retain a snug fit. The hides are used as thoroughly as possible to minimise wasted material.

The gloves are handmade with a sewing machine. The step seam used in the gloves is a very challenging seam type, mastered only by the best seamstresses. The gloves are easy to care for. As the leather is naturally oily, it doesn’t need to be treated with leather care products. Avoid getting the leather wet. Always stretch the gloves lengthwise after each use. Do not store the gloves in an airtight place to allow any moisture accumulated during use to evaporate.

As the lining often wears faster than leather, we offer a lining replacement service, allowing you to change the lining of your gloves that have already moulded to the shape of your hands.

How do I choose the right size gloves?

To find the right size, measure your larger hand (usually your writing hand) at its widest point without a thumb. The circumference of the hand is measured very firmly around the hand. Tip: If you do not have a tape measure, you can use a string. Measure the circumference of the hand with the string and then measure the length of the string with a ruler. This measurement result allows you to select the correct size from the selected size chart. (The size chart can be found on each product page.) If the measurement is between two sizes, we recommend rounding to the nearest half or full size. When rounding to the nearest size, consider the length of your fingers. If you have long fingers or keep your nails long, choose a larger size. If the model of your hand is more wide than the long model, choose a smaller size - this way the fingers are not too long. The glove should sit firmly at the beginning, as the leather stretches slightly in use and shapes in your hand over time.
